Course Description:

Optimizing Humidity: Is “Good Enough” Enough? reviews how the airway conditions inspired gases and the evidence supporting optimal heat and humidity. Presented by Trenton Ridges, BSRT, RRT, RRT-ACCS, this activity compares heat and humidity requirements across noninvasive ventilation, high-flow nasal therapy, invasive mechanical ventilation and tracheostomy care, and discusses practical approaches to optimizing humidification.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the anatomy and physiology of conditioning inspired gases, and the evidence supporting optimal heat and humidity.
  • Compare heat and humidity requirements for patients receiving noninvasive ventilation (NIV), high-flow nasal therapy (HFNT), invasive mechanical ventilation, and tracheostomy care.
  • Discuss practical approaches to humidification optimization informed by clinical experience.
